The owner of this Tc wanted an audio upgrade, but didn't want to sacrifice trunk space. We suggested a custom fiberglass box installed in the sidewall.
Our fiberglass workstation has everything we need to take this from start to finish.
We start by calculating the necessary volume of the box and then taping off the area the box will fit into.
With the plate over the top, you can see how little space this will take from the trunk.
We start by preparing the trunk. This gives a surface to mold the fiberglass to, and is extended out to further protect the interior.
Fiberglass is partially applied, showing the contours of the panel that the finished box will fit into.
The initial fiberglassing is complete. After it cures, we will pull it out for the next step.
The front plate is roughly attached to the face ready for cleanup and sealing.
The excess fiberglass is knocked down and the face is securely sealed to the back fiberglass.
We carpet the outside to help match the interior of the car. This is ready for wiring in the sub and installation.
The completed box matches the expected placement and extends only a couple inches from the old sidewall in the trunk.
This sub requires a lot of air volume. A custom fiberglass box is the only option for installing this without using much of the trunk space.
The complete installation is a good match for this car, with no sacrifice in space.
